The Saraswati mantra for students
Saraswati is the goddess of learning, music and speech. For generations, students in Hindu families have chanted a Saraswati mantra before opening their books. The one on this page, Namaste Shaarade Devi, asks for her blessing at the start of study. It is a short, simple prayer before an exam, or before any hour at the desk.
The Saraswati mantras in the Mahakatha Library include the Saraswati mantra for exams and the Saraswati beeja mantra, each with its words and meaning. If your family sings the Saraswati Vandana, begin with that instead. The study timer works the same.
A Pomodoro study timer with a prayer built in
The Pomodoro way of studying is simple: work for a set time, rest, and repeat. Most study timers only count the minutes. Here, you press play once. The bell rings and the Saraswati mantra begins. After 25 or 45 minutes the bell rings again and your rest of 5 or 10 minutes starts by itself, then the next round. After four rounds comes a long rest. If you study better in silence, turn the mantra off and keep the bells.
No mantra can promise marks, and this one doesn't replace the work. What it gives you is a way to settle before you begin, and a rest that isn't your phone.
Best wishes for an exam, from someone who loves them
Parents and grandparents often feel there is little they can do on exam morning. Here is one small thing. Write their name in the blessing on this page, and send your best wishes for the exam by WhatsApp or message.
Mantras for students from Mahakatha
This recording is from Mahakatha, which has made original devotional mantra recordings since 2011. The Mahakatha app has mantras for calm, focus and sleep, and guided sittings for hard days. Mahakatha Radio plays free all day, if you like soft chanting while you study.
